40 years of the Quilters Guild
In the last couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed joining fellow quilters in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles or Quilters Guild for short. It’s quite an achievement and it’s been a good exercise to pause and look back at the Guild’s journey over the last 40 years. I’m sure the founders had no idea what patchwork and quilting would look like 40 years from when they first got together. The Festival of Quilts is world renown and attracts the top quilters from around the world to show their work, give workshops and talks.
At the regional level, it provides interesting talks and workshops for members as well as the opportunity to get together to admire quilts at the show & tells and just chat and eat cake! It’ll be really interesting to see how the Guild continues to serve quilters in the coming years – and for the next few years I’ll be having an inside view as I sit on the Trustee board! – as it adds to the Collection, seeks to attract more members and embraces the ever increasing breadth of this wonderful textile activity.
